We will offer a selection of pre-, during and post-conference excursions. Please indicate your choice when you register.
Pre-Conference Excursions - Monday May 18th:
Option 1: Forest Experience Ossiacher Tauern (guided by the Forestry Training Centre (BFW) and the Austrian State Forests (ÖBF))
We will depart from Klagenfurt at 08:00 by coach. Our first stop will be the Bleistätter Moor peat bog, where you can experience this wonderful landscape. Next, we will visit the Forestry Training Centre to learn about forestry education in Austria and its historical buildings. Lunch will be served there.
Afterwards, we will visit the Wild Life Centre at the Ossiacher Tauern. There, we will have the opportunity to learn about the forest in this region, which is part of a Natura 2000 area. Topics will include forest development, the relationship between forests and health, and educational concepts about forests. After relaxing for a while, we will return to Klagenfurt, arriving at around 6 pm.
The estimated cost (to be confirmed prior to registration) is €70, including lunch and coach travel. The minimum number of participants is 10 and the maximum is 45.
Option 2: Hasslacher Norica Timber – From Wood to Wonders - not confirmed yet (please wait for further information)
We will visit the timber construction company Hasslacher Norica Timber in Sachsenburg. We will have the opportunity to take a look at some excellent international timber construction projects, as well as observing the modern production of these wooden structures.
The estimated cost (to be confirmed prior to registration) is €70 per person, including lunch and travel by minibus. The minimum number of participants is 10 and the maximum is 22.
In-Conference Excursion - Thursday May 21st:
There will be a conference excursion to the Open-Air Museum in Maria Saal.
We will leave together before noon and travel there by public transport. There will be guided tours led by museum specialists, followed by free time to explore. Afterwards, we will return to Klagenfurt together by public transport.
A lunch buffet featuring local specialities will be provided at the museum.
All costs are covered by the conference fee.
Post-Conference Excursions - Saturday May 23rd:
Option 3: Ljubljana moor archaeological site and the Handicraft Center of Ribnica, Slovenia (guided by Maks Merela, University of Ljubljana)
First, we will visit the Ribnica Handicraft Centre. The Ribnica Handicraft Centre's mission is to provide continuous care for the overall preservation and development of cultural heritage, with a focus on woodenware and pottery.
Lunch will be served en route to Ljubljana.
In the afternoon, we will visit the UNESCO World Heritage site presenting the Ljubljana marshes and the pile dwellings.
A coach will pick you up in Klagenfurt and take you to the various locations before bringing you back. The start time is 08:00 in Klagenfurt, with a scheduled return at 18:00.
The estimated cost (to be confirmed prior to registration) is €110 per person, including all entrance fees, lunch and coach travel. The minimum number of participants is 15 and the maximum is 45. If you are coming from outside the European Union, please check that your visa is valid.
Option 4: Hallstatt – prehistoric salt mine (guided by Daniel Brandner, Natural History Museum Vienna)
We will visit the Bronze Age and Iron Age salt-mining sites in Hallstatt, where renowned wooden artefacts such as the oldest wooden staircase were found.
As the tourist site is closed at this time, the excursion led by Daniel Brandner (the leading archaeologist of the mining site at the Natural History Museum in Vienna) is limited to three minibuses, i.e. 21 participants. The minimum number is 10.
We will leave Klagenfurt at 07:30, having a light lunch in Hallstatt. The excursion will end in Attnang-Puchheim at the railway station (on the main line to Salzburg or Vienna) at around 6 pm. We will not return to Klagenfurt!!! Two buses will continue to Vienna with a maximum of 14 participants.
The estimated cost (to be confirmed prior to registration) is €90 per person, including entrance fees, lunch and travel costs to Attnang-Puchheim.
